“COVID-19 has affected each and every one of us someway or another. From our daily life being disrupted, to losing a loved one. We as a whole have the ability to slow the devastating impact of this raging virus. Coronavirus is infecting and killing many individuals from all types of backgrounds. With more information being made apparent, we know that the elderly are the most vulnerable and make up a majority of the fatality rate. We are now seeing African American and Hispanics communities becoming affected disproportionately in ways unimaginable. These communities are the sum of our cities population and are now an astounding percentage of COVID-19 related deaths around the world. Because of these highly populated regions, the virus is able to spread more rapidly, infecting more and more individuals every single day. As an African American and hispanic myself, living in one of the biggest cities in the world, I have experienced first hand the effect COVID-19 has had on my community.

But just because we are in close proximity to one another, does not mean we can’t take extra precaution to slow the spread of the virus. Here’s how:
1: Wear a filtered face mask at all times when going outside or traveling.
2: Stay 6 feet or more away from other individuals.
3: Wear rubber gloves when touching your surroundings and disinfect all surfaces in your home.
4: Always wash your hand with soap and water. Sanitize your hands when touching anything.
